About Me

The best things in life are free but things that are handmade, recycled or just plain cheap come a close second.

Daddy Denim

Something I'm wearing loads at the moment is this denim jacket which belonged to none other than my Dad!

I've had to roll the sleeves up and it's quite baggy but I absolutely love it! It definately fits the category of "distressed denim" having experienced a lot of wear and tear in its former years, including a patched up shoulder.

In these photos I'm actually wearing two items of recycled men's clothing as the sun glasses previously belonged to one of my student landlords! Do you ever wear your parents old clothes?

Barcelona on a budget

Last week I spent five days visiting a friend who is studying in Barcelona.

My time in the city consisted of picnics, mojitos, strolling around and of course, shopping! There are lots of interesting little shops and boutiques to pick things up at, one of my favourites being Happy Pills - where sweets are made to look like medicine!

Prices start at €2 and the little jars make nice gifts that fit easily in your suitcase (bonus!) The shop's website has more information and an online store too. I also enjoyed visiting the bead shops, many of which are located just off Las Ramblas (one of the main tourist streets). I made a name bracelet with the beads coming to just €1.88 and a packet on string to thread them on for €1.

I also added some €2 friendship bracelets from some touristy stalls to keep it company.

I highly recommended The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón which is set in Barcelona. It is one of my favourite books and gives a real good feel for the city either before or whilst visiting. A really good way to sight-see is to do The Shadow of the Wind Walk which is printed at the front of the book or is available at the author's website. The walk takes in lots of sights like the Cathedral, Plaza Real and Els Quatre
Gats. have you been to Barcelona recently? What did you most enjoy?

To begin...

After much joking from friends and my Mum reminding me that "you are good at being a tightwad Katie" I have decided to become a money-saving blogger! I have plenty of ideas to share (once I have figured out how to use the software) so stay tuned!
